Case Summary Grants

Nephrology fellows are invited to submit a 1-page case summary of a challenging or unusual dialysis experience. A grant will be awarded to the best 20 cases submitted. In addition, the authors of the top 6-8 cases will be selected to present their cases in the Fellows Forum Session of the main conference. Case summaries should be organized like an abstract and be written in a manner to entice audience interaction.

Requirements for Grant Consideration

  • Must be a nephrology fellow in an ACGME approved nephrology training program.
  • A letter must be submitted indicating your desire to apply for the case summary grant. The letter needs to be signed by your nephrology fellowship program director and verify that you are a fellow.
  • A conflict of interest form needs to be submitted. You may download a COI form here.
  • A 1-page case summary.
  • All documents need to be submitted by the submission deadline to Claire Oser via email (oserc@health.missouri.edu) or fax (573-884-4820).

The case summary submission deadline is December 2, 2019.

Abstract Awards

Everyone is invited to submit an abstract (submitted abstracts are not the same as submitting Fellows case summaries). Accepted abstracts will be selected for either an oral or poster presentation and will also be published and indexed in either Hemodialysis International or Peritoneal Dialysis International.

$500 will be awarded to the first author of the abstracts winning the following awards:

  • Outstanding HD Abstract
  • Outstanding PD Abstract

Additional awards for outstanding abstracts may be given at the discretion of the ADC Abstract Committee.

Fellows submitting abstracts will not be considered for the Fellow Case Submission grant unless a case was submitted separately.

The abstract submission deadline is October 7, 2019.

Case Summaries for “Stump the Consultants”

Pediatric Nephrology Fellows training in a pediatric or medicine/pediatrics training program are invited to submit 1 to 3 page case summaries describing a problem PD, HD or CRRT case. Scholarships consisting of $500 travel grants will be awarded to 3 Fellows whose cases are chosen for presentation in the Fundamentals of Dialysis in Children Fellows’ Case Conference (“Stump the Consultants”) on Saturday, February 8, 2019. In addition, pending availability of funds, all Fellows submitting cases, whether selected for presentation or not, will have registration fees waived for both the Fundamentals course and the main Annual Dialysis Conference that follows. Cases should be organized so that they lead to one or more management questions that can be posed to the consultants and the audience. Program Director letters are not required for pediatric case summaries.

The deadline for case summary submission is 12:00 midnight, December 2, 2019.

Please note: Pediatric Fellows submitting abstracts to pediatric slide forums or poster sessions are NOT eligible for consideration for a waiver of registration fees. Waiver of registration is limited to pediatric nephrology fellows who submit case summaries to the Stump the Consultants session.

Pediatric case summaries should be submitted via email to BOTH Kimberly Sands and John Mahan, MD, at the addresses below by midnight, December 2, 2019:
