Abstract Title:

Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce – An Update

Abstract Information:

Global challenges and inconsistencies in the nutritional management of children with kidney diseases prompted the formation of the Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce (PRNT) in 2017. This international group consisting of 14 members (pediatric nephrologists and dietitians) from 8 countries across Europe and North America is dedicated to ensuring best practice for the nutritional management of children with kidney diseases. Since its inception, this group has published a number of clinical practice recommendations and review articles along with accompanying practical guides for healthcare professionals and patient resources. The mission of the PRNT is to formulate clinical practice recommendations to enable best practice; to provide education and training resources for healthcare professionals caring for children with kidney diseases; to develop resources which offer practical support for children and their families; and, to promote research in order to expand the evidence base for nutritional intervention in pediatric kidney diseases. Once formed, the members of the PRNT identified nutrition topics and divided into smaller working subgroups. For each topic, PICO (population, intervention, comparator, outcome) questions were developed. Extensive literature searches were then completed and clinical practice recommendations (CPR) drafted. Each CPR underwent a Delphi survey before the final CPR was published. Accompanying provider and patient resources were subsequently developed. Work by the PRNT currently continues; and, includes plans for several more nutrition-related CPR’s and review papers. All published work by the PRNT is available through open access.
